Whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. ~Matthew 18:5
Hands in Mission is a faith-based organization with the goal to "Address the physical and spiritual needs of the communities we serve." We've been engaged in local and international service work for over 20 years as part of Remembrance Reformed Church. For more information visit the Hands in Mission website. In 2006, HIM became a separate 501c3 focusing on two areas;
Avance de Centroamerica was started in response to the devastation of Hurricane Mitch in Honduras in 1998 to support rebuilding. Since then, we've expanded our partnerships with communities in Central America to develop self-sustainable programs for education, technical training, small business development, and social support. Our projects include facilities for job training, youth programming, orphanage over-crowding and medical services. Our program works to with existing organizations providing them necessary support as they work to become self-sustaining. For more information follow this link.

Feeding Walker Kids is our newest mission. Julie Wilson, our missions director and a local school bus driver, recognized a long-standing need for support to local families struggling with food insecurity. After exploring other local agencies, it became clear that there was a gap in service in Walker. In the fall of 2018, Julie worked with the Hands in Mission board to organize the program that quickly took on a life of it's own.
Feeding Walker Kids provides weekend meals to over 350 children in 5 Walker schools, including all the Kenowa elementary schools, Walker Charter Academy, and West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science. Working in partnership with the food service programs, school social workers, and administration, eligible families are encouraged to apply. The meals are packed and delivered to schools on Wednesday and students take them home on Friday. Summer meal drop-off sites are coordinated with local churches and community centers. Families are also referred to local Summer Food Service Program sites for daily meal support. |
